"The show didn’t really take sides with the religion debate"

Jen
I am sorry but I can't resist this one. The fact that the kid (and his dad) are adamant he is not operated on to remove the brain tumor pretty much speaks for itself.

@ Dr. Scott:

"The virus-causing-a-tumor-remission makes since theoretically...."

Did you perhaps mean, "makes *sense* theoretically"?

(I hate the introduction of spell-check, which can't distinguish homophones or other misuses of words that are nonetheless correctly spelled. It's become a substitute for proofreading. [/soapbox])

Re: Atheist = miserable:

There are lots of happy atheists. But the ones who are not happy don't have what Karl Marx (with whom I disagree on everything else) called "the opiate of the masses". (Religion). Religious people who are miserable can find comfort in their delus -- strike that, in their faith. For House, Vicodin is the opioid of the messes. (wow, I'm on a roll now! ;)

The funniest part was the "Viewer discretion advised" warning. Usually, it says no more, or makes reference to "adult situations" or language. This one said, "Religious sensibilities may be contained in tonight's episode."

"contained"? I think they meant "offended", and it would be a fair warning to those who've never seen the show and know nothing of House's long history of antagonism and mockery of religion. (What is "sensibilities are contained" supposed to mean? Sheesh....)

The trolls some posts above made me sad, as the comments here are usually quite enjoyable to read, and I make a point to go through them as they often provide some more insight as addendum to Scott's comments.

While House himself is consistent with the "miserable atheist" stereotype, Cameron is not. I think that helps show that House is just miserable because he's miserable. :)

To KKC -- MGSomebody is right. I usually watch the show in English and with English subtitles, and early on when they mentioned somebody's temperature, I had no idea whether the number they just said was high fever or just a slight elevation. I'm beginning to learn, though -- by now I can tell that 103 is really high, but I cannot relate to it. For us, the thermometer ranges from 35 to 42 degrees Celsius. Of course, this was covered in English classes, but it's not that easy to calculate in a split second. Actually I'm quite proud that I'm able to think in miles, yards, feet and inches when reading or watching English stuff.
