I liked this episode very much: as i watched it I thought this was the best House episode ever. Time will tell whether my opinion holds up. But I thought it was far better than the ultra-melodramatic (Euphoria) and borderline sadistic (Who's your daddy?, making the girl feel pain) episodes that came before this one. I didn't feel cheated because, as others have said, we got to explore House's inner musings. Shows that I can't stand are like the lady or the tiger? That's when I feel cheated, because I feel the author didn't finish the story.

AND as an added perk, I realize from the many references to "Three Stories" that I had not actually seen that one (or the one after it), because I hadn't rented dvd 6 of season 1, which I had thought was all bonus materials. I hadn't realized that it contained two actual episodes---which now prove to be, in this case, a bonus for me. Time to back-pedal and watch them. And yeah, I didn't start watching House till this spring--mainly because most network tv is crap. But because a friend recommended it and because I had known Hugh Laurie from Jeeves & Wooster, I thought I'd give it a go.

Reality slipped away throughout the episode. It degenerated as House's delusion deepened, and that was very well done.

While these kinds of stories CAN be very cheaty and stupid, they pulled it off to artistic precision. There is not a wasted shot or sentence in the entire episode. It's jam-packed with so much brilliantly communicated information that it just destroys any negative presented by the cliche it's based on.

To what Michelle said (a long time ago, I know) -- House hallucinated that *Cuddy* told him about the ketamine, but actually he had heard about it before and his subconscious was "sending the message" that it was a good occasion to try it. That's how I interpreted it anyway.

luis--
I also didn't think there was a contradiction there, but for a different reason.

He asked who House was, and when he said it was Cameron, he said he knew her, and that his wife was a patient. I personally thought the asking who House was was so that he could get in the room and a bit closer. Give House a little more time to know what was going on (and therefore suffer more, theoretically) rather than shooting him before he had any idea of what was happening or who the guy was.

I couldn't help but wonder myself, if the guy even shot House because his wife killed herself, or if his reasoning was what House predicted in the beginning, since it was all a hallucination.

I didn't really understand why he would say that he wanted the ketamine, if there was a chance he would lose his mind. Especially since there most likely wasn't any reason to give him ketamine at all, since he hallucinated the information from Germany.

Overall, I was disappointed in the episode, and disappointed that the writers apparently like to end seasons with hallucinatory episodes.

I've just seen the episode, and think that's no contradiction between the fact that Moriarty didn't know who was House and the explanation that the wife killed herself because of a revelation made by House.
House never went to know the patient, who actually was Moriarty. He got the infidelity's information from his team, and he told that to the wife, in a conversation exactly that he had in the hallucination (4 marries 4...)

What I found weird is that in this episode and the next, House's leg is fully restored. How? Doesn't he lack a whole leg muscle or am I imagening things?

I thought Houses condition was more than just a matter of chronic pain, but also a lack of actual important bits.
