Thank you sir, for this informative post! I am not a comic-book author, but I am an aspiring author that wants to do things right. I honestly didn't know that a flatline should not be shocked! Thanks for posting! :)

Oh! And as I work in a library, I thought I'd mention an extremely informative book called "Body Trauma: A Writer's Guide to Wounds and Injuries." It's saved me from embarrassment a number of times.

In comics (and TV and movies), whenever a character suffers a severe wound -- particularly a fatal one -- they begin oozing blood from everywhere (how many "blood trickling from the mouth symbolizing fatal wound" scenes have you seen?), even though anatomically it is extremely improbable, if not downright impossible.

I don't really understand what's wrong with that, Scott. Could you please elaborate for us laymen interested in medicine? Thanks!

Scott, your post has given me an idea for a potential joint project that could be extremely cool. Can you write me off-line so we can discuss it?

Thanks!

Speaking of autopsies and rigor mortis, why are there never animal bites on corpses? If a corpse is found in a grimy alley in New York or Gotham, it should have a bunch of triangular rat bites.
