Wouldn't it have been simpler I wonder to have made House a neurosurgeon given he performs so many brain surgeries? And give Foreman another area of expertise perhaps?

An additional question: While I have read enough about antibodies used for staining, I am not aware of reading it with a MRI, let alone inside a living body.

Now, I never watched this episode and I can only deduct from the comments, but is it really that easy to remove cells that just have some different DNA? And was it really worth it? I sometimes have doubts about whereter proposed therapies are actually worth their risks, here, for exampleo, they would have simply converted hallucinations+poor eyesight into brain damage+blindness by removing the cells if they weren't lucky-the brain and retina are not toys!

I wonder if the casting of Sheryl Lee as the mother of the boy was meant to be a tip off to the ultimate solution of Chimerism. After all it was the murder of her character, Laura Palmer that was the central mystery surrounding the series TWIN Peaks.

"This was the first episode of House I’ve seen where I figured it out way before they did..."

Based on all the comments, I guess it is because the H-Team hadn't seen the CSI episode dealing with chimera. :P

Anyway, I hadn't, so apparently I am among the few who didn't know the answer.

Uhn! *facepalm*

Okay, maybe it's the major in genetics I'm doing (and specifically the Human Genetics paper), but honestly, mutations? "Completely different genome" (or as much so as any two siblings) did not immediately scream "chimera"? Hmph.

Also, the IVF might not have been 100% red herring - iirc, IFV increases the chances of multiple embryos, and chimerism can only occur in situations where there are two or more embryos to begin with. Hence, to a degree, IFV could increase the chances of chimerism by increasing the chances of the requirement for it to occur... or am I way off there?

Okay, I saw someone mention that the other fetus was a very unhealthy fetus if all these things were wrong with it... Correct me if I'm wrong about this, but isn't that one reason why embryos are absorbed by a healthier twin or the mother? Because that embryo can't compete with the sibling?

I'm only mentioning this because I recall reading somewhere that one out of eight pregnancies starts out as a multiple babby one, and a lot of people do, in fact, absorb their potential twin.

...I shouldn't post things at four in the morning.

First time commenting so just gotta dd the usual "I love this blog". I'm a first year med student currently working my way through House having never watched it before, and since finding this I always come and read after each episode!

Anyway, my main reason for commenting was because I did actually figure this one out before House and the rest of the team did at the whole 2 cell lines thing. We had a question on it last term in a study session, and it popped back into my brain. Though it seems this happened for a lot of people so ah well. :)

Thanks for your review. I smelt a rat and came here to check it out. The Series became exceptional in Series 2, and I was looking forward to it improving in Series 3. The Wilson/Cuddy holding out thing in S3E1 bugged me; I figured "ok, it's tv" but S3E2 was a huge disappointment. Like everyone else, I picked Chimera as soon as they said 2 sets of DNA. But the medicine was damned terrible. From Cameron's overnight marker "we do this with cancer", to the craziness that the "twin's DNA" in the kid's brain was causing the hallucinations (and that they could so easily burn it out). This is a medical show. I expect the medicine to be plausible, but this was like Star Trek when they just make the science up. The following are the authors of this piece of utter crap: Skip anything their names are attached too: Russel Friend & Garrett Lerner & Lawrence Kaplow & David Shore
