October and November Searches

It’s that time again to look at what internet search engine queries brought people to Polite Dissent over the past two months. You’ll notice a couple of repeats on here, but that’s only because people keep asking for it. As always, my comments when appropriate (or even when inappropriate) are in green italics. (Previous seach posts can be found here, and it seems I missed September. I’ll have to correct that oversight at some point)

SEARCHES that I DON’T WANT TO KNOW ANY MORE ABOUT

  • Haloperidol nausea and vomiting action images pictures
  • Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable smacking lips
  • Chaykin soft penetrating Hawkgirl

COMIC BOOK RELATED SEARCHES

  • Barbara Kesel Worst Writer She’s written some good series (Hawk & Dove) and some less good series (Savant Garde), but she’s far from the worst writer. One thing you can say about her is that she tends to stick to her own creations and write their stories, so if she writes bad stories, it’s just her fans who pay the price. It’s the writers who write bad stories about characters other people worked hard to make respected — these are the much worse writers in my opinion (Bruce Jones, for instance)
  • Songs & Stories about the Justice League of America I think you want the Comic Treadmill

MISCELLANEOUS SEARCHES

  • Daredevil vacuum
  • Kim Possible picks cupcakes
  • Coloring books how to draw emo people You need lots of black crayons. Now that I think about it, that’s a great idea. Someone can put a set of crayons with Emo specific colors and names, such as “Shroud Black,” “Depression Gray,” “Bleeding Heart Red,” “Miasma Green,” and “Misunderstood Mauve.”

JUST PLAIN WRONG

  • Erotic Hi and Lois comics
  • Charley Brown having sex

  1. “Where does Batman the Long Halloween go in the Dewey decimal system?”

Isn’t this pretty self-explanatory? Someone is wondering where in the Library he should go to find/put Long Halloween to. Or then he has a school assingment where he has to give Dewey-numbers to five books he owns or something, and thought Google would be a good way to cheat.

I would give it value 813, but I’m not American and I checked the answer from Wikipedia (Articles “Dewey Decimal System” and “List of Dewey Decimal classes”). As I said, the answer is 813, which is for; Literature>American Literature in English>Fiction. I might be wrong.

  2. Juho,
You’re right; what they’re looking for is fairly clear. What I’d like to know is what the answer is.

  3. I looked it up on Worldcat. Batman: The Long Halloween gets 741.5/973 under DD.

  4. Great! Now if I can just get my library to stock more graphic novels (though they are getting better).

  5. Yeah, it’d absolutely go in 741.5′973. 700s for the arts (it’s drawn stuff, not literature in the classic sense), 741.5 for comics, and 741.5973 for American comics. (Manga would typically go in 741.5952 if it’s Japanese, Korean manhwa would be in another number, etc.)

As for getting them to stock more comics, most libraries have a comment or suggestion box. Our local library posts the comments with responses once or twice a month. It’s cool to see what people suggest or compliment or whine about. But many ask “Can you buy a copy of X?” and the answer is usually a resounding yes. They figure if someone cares enough to write down the request, it’s going to be worth buying, since it should actually circulate at least once…

  6. “Charley Brown having sex”

That IS just wrong! I mean, isn’t it spelled Charlie Brown?

  7. Charley Brown is the name he uses as a disguise when signing in at cheap motels with hookers.

Nobody said he was very smart!

  8. At least it was not “Charley Brown and Snoopy having sex” – maybe that will be next month?

Or could it be the favorite steak house / family restaurant of my elderly family members (Charlie Brown’s) has a secret back room for raves / doing the horizontal mambo?
