It's pretty obvious what the writers were trying to go for with Tritter, they were trying to do House Vs. House, and since this isn't a Sci-fi or fantasy show, creating a different character that was just like House was the only way they could do it. However, taking it out of the medical field was a big mistake, instead of some cop vs House, it should have been some young upstart doctor that is just like House personality-wise and just as smart, somebody who could possibly upstage him. While the new guy would inevitably screw up and House would swoop in and fix it, it would still give Cuddy and the others a reason to say "You're not so special House", making it harder for him to get away with things. Besides, because this show is called House, everyone knew that Tritter didn't stand any real chance of doing any real damage to House, because that would screw with the show's dynamic, the Young Guns would either have to call him from jail all the time, or the season would have to end until he got out, because if he was convicted he would only have to be there for an year, two at most anyway.

I had a slight problem with the final diagnosis. Do meningeal arteries ever supply the brain? The main thing the meningeal branch of the vertebral artery supplies is the falx cerebelli (a meninge). I thought all meningeal arteries served meninges only, since the brain has other sources of circulation (some of which are OTHER branches of the vertebral arteries).
In fact, could a spinal meningioma even compress the menigeal branch of the vertebral artery? Scott's link says they are usually in the thoracic area, so it seems unlikely that one would be found that high up, albeit more probable than a meningeal artery problem causing false memories.

I don't think it's been mentioned, but one thing I found odd in this episode from a non-medical and non-legal is this: there are TWO brothers serving at the same firehouse. Don't most fire stations have rules against this? That way if something disastrous happened and several firemen (and woman) were wiped out, there'd be less of a chance of two siblings being killed at the same time? (I know there's a similar rule in the military.)

May I point out: the firefighter told his partner "I'm freezing" not that he was having chills...I think there's quite a difference and it does detract from the medical mystery because why would he be "freezing"? Does the final condition really explain the "freezing" or does it only explain chills?
Also, it was not actually House who blew off arrythmia, but he did not argue with Cameron blowing it off either-he was more focused on getting the law off his back and scoring Vicodin for his pain.
I liked watching Cameron stand up to House in this ep, it is odd the other two didn't seem to want to-when they usually do.
My problem with the EST is they didn't even bother to verify the facts of the situation - which I guess as you say, indepth evaluation and history would have revealed...and the fact that Cuddy did not challenge the "facts" is also not in character - it's as if (as House said) that she was making concessions for him this time or because he was in rehab.

I'm as you are, Kellibuzz...still suckered in after all this time..still enjoying in parts, but more disillusioned in others..

still WAITING on that change/series of changes you allude to..the writers are still as unwilling/incompetant/scared of going in any of those directions as of yet...for the most part.

shame... this show had such brilliant potential...

excellent point, I'm surrounded!!! hear, hear!

well, they do do a lot of cr@p on this show just for dramatic effect! and it bothers me too.

its now in season five and its no better then season 3, as far as things being handled well and logically.

that other poster was right! If your an idiot, a simpleminded fool, or simply can get by without requiring any standards whatsoever to be applied to your entertainment, you will have many entertainment choices indeed! and you will ALWAYS be pleased by what you see!

Does this show set out to be totally LUDICROUS on purpose, or is that all just a wacky by-product/accident to it??

agree with you JoeBeets!!! I couldnt make out 3 words in that damn run-on insanity!! I love reading in depth reviews of shows (hence, Im here) but that was just ridiculous!

It sounded like it was written by a third-grader! I tried hard to make out some meaning from it, tried to kind of take it all in at once thereby hopefully bypassing all the atrocious spelling and grammatical errors, but alas!! such a massive obstacle was not to be overcome, and my brain fried out after about 3 minutes of such.
PEOPLE please! if you want the rest of us to actually READ what you say, then do the simple thing and make it legible and oh, readable! okay?? Thanks!!
sheesh.

For those looking for a "Holmes" parallel, this episode should've been "Reichenbach" (not sure I spelled it quite right). And if Fox was really canny, they could explain the long gap between airing episodes as something that was going on at Princeton-Plainsboro too.

You must know a lot about medical stuff judging from your comments of the episode. I have not watched this episode though that's why I find it interesting to read your post (thanks for narrating it). I can't really be as technical as you. I am not so familiar with medical terms and procedures..What I like about this show is how it is different from other medical TV series. I like House' arrogance too..
