A Wedding Story
My wife was kind enough to let me assist in two ways for our wedding: I could choose the cake topper, and I could pick the music for before the ceremony and the processional. She knew my interests and my sense of humor, so she knew what she’d be sacrificing.
For the music, I stayed with the normal Barouqe music common to weddings. I did add a few songs into the mix: the Princess Bride, the theme from Lost in Space (the movie, not the TV show…bad movie, but good music), and the theme from the Incredible Hulk TV show. It sounds weird, but all the pieces fit in perfectly with the traditional music. Unless you knew what my additions were, you’d just think it was regular wedding music. You could see people give a smile when they recognized what I added, but it wasn’t many. Last but not least, I had the Planet of Krypton (from Superman the Movie) as the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and groom were introduced. It’s the best short dramatic piece, ever.
I let my bride keep the traditional music for her grand entrance. I’m not stupid.
I couldn’t find a cake topper I liked so I built my own. I started with the Justice League Batman action figure, and the Catwoman action figure from the “Women of Gotham City figure pack (it also had a batgirl and a Poison Ivy, but alas, no Harley Quinn). I also took the figure of Isis, Catwoman’s cat, to represent our cat Samantha. I next went to Michael’s Arts & Crafts store, and picked up a few items: some small fake lilac-colored roses (our wedding color was ‘victoria lilac’), small white ribbon, and a set of decoration for a wedding scrapbook including a small cloth wedding dress, a small tux, and some fake wedding rings. When I picked up the action figure at Toys’R'Us, I also picked up a Skipper Wedding dress (Barbie’s little sister…and why did she need a wedding dress?)
With some judicious cuts, the small wedding dress form Michael’s fit over Catwoman’s body. I took some suture I had in the house and sewed the dress back up. It kept slipping down over her cleavage, so I hot glued it intoplace. I added a strip of white ribbon around the top of the dress to hide the glue. For her tiara, I took the fake scrapbook wedding band and attached some lace cut from Skipper’s wedding dress. I glued this into place. I took the veil from Skipper’s wedding dress and made it into the train for her dress. Finally, I glueda bouquet of roses into her hand.
For Batman, I simply took the bowtie of the tiny scrapbook tux and glued it into place. I also added a single rise as a boutonniere. I then glued their hands together. Simple.
