Batman: Fists Like a Gun

Batman dukes it out with Pete “Nails” Logan, a mobster wanted for murder.

I’m impressed that the doctor was able to deduce that Nails had been shot without seeing a bullet wound. And with just a stethoscope. I guess medicine was more advanced in 1942 than I thought.

(Make your own Tony Stark/shrapnel analogy here.)

  1. We sure that wasn’t Superman in the Batman costume? I’m no expert, but I doubt Batman could hit someone hard enough to move a lodged bullet into the heart…

  2. He didn’t die from a GUNshot, though. What WOULD you called a fist propelled bullet? Stabbing?

  3. The doctor indicates he knows the guy had a bullet near his heart because he did the operation years ago that removed other bullets. So when Batman relates he hit him hard in the chest (presumably earlier off-panel, in describing what happened), would there be a quick check the doctor could do even in 1942 (X-ray?) that indicated yup, the bullet went into the heart, and that leads to the third panel.

  4. On other lists there have been poor deluded fools who do not believe that batman would win a fight against Iron Man. Now we know how wrong they are.

  5. That caption does say “LATER”, and we don’t see the body.

    Maybe it’s after an autopsy?

Since he IMMEDIATELY explains what happened, his “he’s been shot!” line may just be him being a smart-ass.

On the other claw, if it’s right after the autopsy, the observation that “This man is DEAD!” seems a bit redundant.
