Monday PSA: Wake Up America!
June 23rd, 2008

From USA Comics #7, February 1943.
(And for those of you who aren’t sure what War Stamps were, they were basically mini-War Bonds with a price of 25¢ marketed at children. Fill a special album with 75 of them, and you could turn it in for a $25 War Bond that would mature in 10 years).

Man, savings bonds were about the worst present you could ever unwrap. $25 might be great when you are five, but you don’t get that $25 until you are 25 and have a job making much more than that.

Some decent grammar could really help Cap in this situation. I mean, right now, in that comma-less wasteland that is his speech bubble, it just looks like he’s inciting people to start running around and waking up their sleeping neighbours.

That is a really cool picture. The possibilities for substitute captioning are endless!

Well, if Cap suggests it, I’m willing to take a bus across the border and shake some Americans awake.

I wish you would. But I don’t have high hopes for your, or anyone’s, success.

What a gamble. What if America lost?
“Hmmm…you want to redeem your War Bond? Off to the camps with you!”
