Monday PSA: It’s Fun to Learn!

A better title for this public service ad may be “It’s Fun to Lecture Younger Kids While Watching Them Work.” Way to go Ted, you could at least lend a hand.
I also have serious doubts about whether that field will ever be good for playing ball. There’s trees still growing there, not to mention hillocks. It’s not a ball field — it’s an obstacle course (but then again, that could be exactly what the kids are looking for).
As usual for DC comics PSAs, the script is by Jack Schiff assisted by frequent artistic collaborator Bernard Baily. This ad appeared in various October 1959 comics, including The Brave and the Bold #26 — featuring the original Suicide Squad — where this I scanned this.

Hmmm, old car batteries, rusty tin cans, and the earth seems to be emitting plumes of toxic smoke, as if there were old tires burning somewhere. Yep, looks like an excellent site for that ball-park! Carry on, boys!

Not only that, but they appear to have disturbed sacred ground or something because I’m pretty sure those are zombies risen from the grave in the last panel. …brains…

It would have been more entertaining, if the ghost of Archimedes had appeared. He would of stated his famous maxim: “Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.”
I’ve watched enought Road Runner cartoons to know that someone is going to get hurt, when a fulcrum is being used. If only Steve spent more time watching tv!

I would have given the kids a quick lesson in the deadlift. The kid in panel 2 has awful form and is certain to do himself harm lifting heavy objects in that way.

Perhaps he has knee problems. My knees are absolutely awful (I used to stand incorrectly when I sang in my school choir, which ruined them), and I can’t crouch to lift anything if I want to actually get off the ground afterwards.
