It’s an attempt, I think, to make the commercial stand out from the overabundant mundane commercials that bore people (me) half to death. Surrealism stands out.

Of course, there’s also the insane, creepy kind of surrealism, like the Gatorade commercial with the basketball player emerging full-grown from the basketball egg while glowing green Gatorade rains down from the heavens. *shudder*

Weird, that is the exact thought I had. Happy Fun ball narrated by the great Phil Hartman.

The second thing I thought of was the urban legend, where the teen (on LSD) would stare into the sun and go blind.
