I Think I See the Problem Here
July 30th, 2008

The problem is that you’re trying to find Power Girl’s heart rate by listening to the back of her forearm.

Look, I can understand that you’re intimidated by Power Girl’s prodigious expanses of upper torso real estate, but you’re supposed to be a professional — get over it and listen to her chest. Or at least find the pulse in place where one is detectable, say the neck (carotid artery) or cubital fossa (brachial artery).
It is nice to see Dr. Beth Chapman, a.k.a. Doctor Midnight, back alive, though that outfit remains one of the ugliest costumes ever — but please tell me she’s not listening to the stethoscope through her costume.

She’s blind, man! Cut her some slack. The rest of the JSI does, I can tell you that much. The previous Dr. Mid-nite was such a nice guy, they can’t be rude to her. Or maybe he pays for the pool, I don’t know.

If she’s blind, why does she need a bright light to perform examinations? Also, maybe Doctor Midnight’s costume has built-in stethoscope holes, for just this kind of situation.
Incidentally, is it spelled Midnight or Mid-Nite? I know the current one is Mid-Nite, but did Beth Chapel spell hers differently?

Maybe she has little earholes cut in the sides of her hood for just such situations.
Little earholes with tiny little earflaps.

Power Girl’s ,,ummmm….. Power Girls prevent any heartbeat from being heard, I’m afraid.
Shouldn’t her gloves be removed, though.

As a computer/electrical engineer, this is a perfect medical analogy for watching a movie about “computers”.

Dean,
It’s “Doctor Midnight” — though she is considered the second Dr Mid-Nite. The current (and third) doctor goes with the original spelling.

Dean–she’s asking Jade to use her powers to amplify the sound of the stethoscope. (I didn’t know Jade’s powers could do that, but what the hey….) The bright light is just a side-effect.

Could it be a kryptonian artery? I would imagine they are not perfect copies of the human body. For that matter is she considered kryptonian at all anymore?

Dear god, that angle in the second panel is just so wrong for Power Girl…….

Yes, but there’s that big light over Jade and Midnight’s heads, in the first panel. I thought that was the light that the caption was referring to.
