The number one peeve among women named "Lois" is that people are constantly calling them "Louis" or "Louise" both in speech and in writing. There's even an organization called "The Lois Club" that tries to educate people about this problem.

@Dwight - According to Wikipedia, somewhere between 1673 and 1763. The valley was originally named Louisiana for King Louis XIV in 1678. There were numerous settlements in the area, but it looks like the one in 1763 was the first one to really be considered a city. It was not a US city until 1822 when Missouri was incorporated as a state. Except that St. Louis referred to St. Louis County, which incorporated a larger area. In 1876, the city officially seceded from the county.

^_^ Does that somewhat answer the question?

I've seen speculation that it's a Louis Vitton bracelet, not a hospital identification one. Seems kind of weak.

Good point about the wedding ring, David. What sort of hospital leaves the rings on a patient with hand injuries?

It's the Louis Grant Memorial Hospital, which caters exclusively to journalists in both the print and visual media.

Especially ones with "spunk".

Lois' middle name? Joanne.

As for the hospital? Might Lois have been transferred to Metro Memorial from another hospital in Metropolis called "St. Louis"?

(Now that I think it over, here's another, related question: when was the city of St. Louis founded/named as such?)

The name isn't the mystery. How'd her fingers get so banged up that they had to have Band-Aids wrapped on, but her manicure remained immaculate?

Maybe they think her name is Louise, but you can't quite see the E.

What's her middle name? That name is awfully big text anyway.

And I think I totally forgot about that gender-swap comic until just now -- that one was awesome.
