House Challenge – Week 1

This week, Ash, Gerrit and DrBoy all lead the pack with a score of 10. In fourth is Hugo with 8 points, and Sable Hope is in fifth with 7 points.

UPDATE:
Oops. Two problems with this week’s scoring.
1) Some entries got caught in the Akismet spam filter.
2) I overlooked some entries that had “leprosy” listed.

I blame software for problem #1. Luckily, Akismet recorded the time the comment came through, and everything real I could find in the morass of comment spam in there was restored to it’s actual time. If these entries were before the 7PM deadline, they were scored for this week. Later ones will be scored starting next week. This problem (hopefully) should not recur.

Problem #2 was my fault. That’s what I get for trying to add up scores too late at night. Scores have been fixed, but this problem might always happen again, so if you think I miss something you had right, let me know.

The corrected winner of this week was Ash, with 22 points. In second was Estella with 17 points, and third was George with 12. DrBoy and Gerrit are now in fourth with 10 points. (Sorry to break up the winning class, guys.)

    Aw, dangit, I’d actually been working on my list for a couple months and at the last minute I completely forgot I was going to put down leprosy. Oh well.

    YAY! Go me with 3 points!! WOOT! When I was making the list, I was actually going to put down a vitamin B12 or Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, but figured it had been done before. Actually, Leprocy has been done before, it was just a different strain with different symptoms. Go figure!

    But congratulations to Ash, Gerrit and DrBoy.

    Wait, don’t Ash and I get points for being the only people who put down leprosy as one of our choices?

    Thanks for organizing the game though, Scott. But I did feel a bit guilty and callous when House declared the patient had leprosy, and my reaction was to jump up and yell YESSSSS!! I GOT IT!! :)

    What would one have had to say in order to get the points for the diagnosis? Is leprosy not good enough??

    I was planning to put lymphoma down, too . . . would’ve gotten more points. I remembered the instant they mentioned it on the show. >_<
    But, hey, at least I got something.

    lol, both an ectopic pregnancy and leprosy in the one episode….this can only mean that i’ll do spectacularly badly in later episodes!!!

    oh, and im a third year medic in the uk, and just started a reproductive endocrinology rotation, hence the ectopic pregnancy choice

    Leprosy was on my short list, but I predictably removed it at the last minute. On the bright side, I’m one-for-one on my prediction to finish with zero points. :-)

    Stellenbosch Medicine Wins! At least at guessing diagnoses in a TV Show…:-)

    And don’t worry Hugo…maybe if you pay more attention in class and study a little harder you can do as well as me and Gerrit! :-)

    I’m still not clear on why us with ‘leprosy” on the list didn’t at least get 4 points (1/3 of 12)…meningitis::viral meningitis seems directly analogous to leprosy::lepromatous leprosy to me…

    Leprosy should have counted for 12 points — my mistake — I just happened to overlook it. Not enough sleep, I guess.

    Rats. I got a reminder email and everything, and yet didn’t get a list together in time. In fact, I should come back after I’ve watched the episode, which is on the DVR now.
