A day late and a dollar short, as usual, but, living in wun uv them furrin countries, we get "House" about a year behind the rest of the world. Not that I'm complaining -- most American TV shows that make it to my local cable provider are either episodes from 3-5 years ago or are shows that were cancelled after 6 episodes.

Anyway, thanks to the people who mentioned the low lighting. I spent most of the episode wondering if there was something wrong with my TV (or if there was a power failure at the hospital).

As to the people who thought that Taub did it -- Taub's behavior is much more easily explained by his having attempted suicide (which House alludes to in this very episode).

I don't know if it's a plot hole or was supposed to be a comment on the state of Eddie and Charlotte's marriage (sticking together from guilt rather than love), but how could she go to Rio rather than Hawaii and have him not notice? He didn't ask what hotel she'd be staying in, or try to call her? He didn't get a postcard from her, or check their credit card bill to see how much she'd spent on the ticket?

One final note, having paged through the other responses now, I am not a jerk about suicide. There have been several in my life, so I understand the flat, over affected fakeness of most of the episode. Agree the scene where they found him was done well, but I also found Amber's death to be incredibly sad and well done, so many of you will think I have no taste, but I think you all have it backwards. The episode was heavy handed and emotionless, not to mention out of character for nearly all involved. I sincerely hope the show improves. I'm stuck watching DVD reruns since my recorder erased my backlog during the season, so I'm not even to the newest shows yet. I WANT THE REAL HOUSE BACK.

Mirror patient missed the symptoms because he had none, because no one planned the actor leaving or wrote like they cared. No one even referenced the conversation Taub and Kutner had in a show like five minutes ago, two or three episodes back. Ridiculous. I agree with Mei.

WHAT??? This episode sucked so badly that, if I didn't LOVE House, I'd never have watched it again. First of all, turn on a g-dmnd light. Just because the guy is dead is no reason to film the whole episode in the dark.

Second--Wilson suddenly has a poster for Ordinary People in his office??!! That was about the point where I threw in the towel, even though I love the show.

The only way I made it through was by engaging my partner in a contest to determine why the guy would off himself. And no, I have no sad feelings or sympathy for this poorly plotted departure of a main character that was ham-handedly handled. Our choices, in no particular order:
1. He was praised by House in the previous episode=instant death
2. Asian gamer kid suicide pact (per Taub's previous comment)
3. He played a game, Soul Catcher I believe it is, where if you sell the worthless stick you get in one of the first quests, you can never finish the game, but you don't find that out till you've waster 400 wasted hours playing
4. The young doc decided to go out at top of his game. He got to be right several times this season, so he left on a high note

The whole thing was such a load of crap and I had no feelings about it, except my usual revulsion at how these people pick apart the corpses of one another's lives looking for meaning and being sure everyone is lying, except themselves, ooh, the irony. And if one more person comes along to tell House he was sent by god, I will be the next to go Kutner.

I feel like the suicide was a bad way to write out Kutner. They'd established his love for working with underprivileged and exotic locations, they could have just sent him off to pursue other interests.

They dropped a bridge on him when they should have put him on a bus

Antimony for leishmaniasis? Boy, they really wanted to kill her off... for someone with liver failure, that's as good as rat poison.
One think they would suggest some lipid formulation of Amphotericin B... but wait, you don't have a health system over there. Too expensive, I see.

It was really obvious this was last minute since they make sure he can't be seen. How can House just scamper in to his apartment, which could be considered a crime scene, whenever he feels like?

What was with the gray-out the entire episode? Don't doctors need light to work or did they decide to leave them all off for ambience sake.

Watching some re-runs, it just occurred to me that the Mirror Syndrome patient of episode 4-05 completely missed any depression in Kutner.
