This Week, on a Very Special Legion of Super-Heroes

Remember those cheesy morality plays ABC called “After-School Specials“? (though my school taped them and played them during the day). Trying to figure out the neuroses of the Legion of Super-Heroes made me realize that they’d be perfect for one of those specials. So, here is the Legion of Super-Heroes After-School Special. Cue theme music! Cue overly-sentimental message-heavy plot! Cue teen actors! Roll it!

Apologies to Jeffrey Moy, Tom Simmons, W.C. Carani, Tom Peyer, Tom McCraw, DC Comics and anyone with dial-up access.

  1. that took awhile to load…humorous though…

  2. Another great remix comic! This might be the greatest LSH story I’ve ever read. That might be because, with the exception of their first appearance in some Superboy comic from the 50’s, it’s the only LSH comic I’ve ever read. Or it could because this piece is damn funny.

  3. The people who wrote Webster wish they could write stuff like that.

  4. Scott, did you ever catch any episodes of “Strangers With Candy” on Comedy Central?

  5. I just realized something, Matter-Eater Lad never seems to gain weight no matter what he eats. Maybe he has another disorder in addition to pica?

Brainiac 5: Superboy, look at this weird vomit that I found in the Legion restroom.

Superboy: Yes. My microscopic vision reveals traces of inertron.

Brainiac 5: Inertron! That’s the same material the Gordanians use to build their new battle cruisers.

Superboy: Didn’t Matter-Eater Lad eat a Gordanian Battle Cruiser this morning?

    Brainiac 5: Oh no.

    (Cue ominous music.)

  6. David,

Nope never watched “Strangers with Candy”, though I understand it’s going to be a movie soon…

  7. Just curious. It took the after-school specials as a framework, but the central character (played by Amy Sedaris) was a 46-year-old “junkie whore” who went back to high school. Very funny, very dark.
