Hail Hydra!

Cut off a limb and two more shall take its place! But injure the heart…and they’re not quite sure what to do.

It looks like the poor Hydra agent is literally trying to massage the victim’s chest — and the victim sure seems to be enjoying it.
And the “two minutes to brain damage”? That’s about three minutes off. Five minutes of oxygen deprivation seems to be the minimum required to cause permanent brain damage.

  1. Well, HYDRA agent brains come pre-damaged. It’s what makes them good cannon-fodder.

  2. Maybe it took them 3 minutes to find an agent who was also a qualified heart-masseur.

  3. I’ve lost this issue, and I kinda miss it. But I think the Baron and probably the Hydra Agent there are both (spoiler!) LMD’s, so Sam’s lucky they didn’t pop his chest open and take a look.

  4. Hi heart is in his left shoulder?

  5. FWIW, I grew up believing in the three 3’s of survival. You could go 3 weeks without food, 3 days without water, or 3 minutes without air. They were probably wildly inaccurate values, but they gave me a baseline that I carried through adulthood and I’m sure others, including Hydra agents and comic book writers, learned the same.

  6. No no! You misunderstand. They meant that the massage provided came *from* the heart. That kneeling agent really meant it. Fortunately the downed agent made a full recovery. Unfortunately this was only in time for a shirtless Nick Fury to ride a motorcycle through the wall and kill everyone.
