The Good Old Days

scene from The Demon #13

Useful bits of medical knowledge I’ve gleaned from Jack Kirby:

kirbyThere was once a time when a doctor could start a raging fire — and nobody considered it out of the ordinary.

kirbyMedicines used to be really, really dangerous.

Scene from The Demon #13, written and penciled by the aforementioned Jack Kirby, where the doctor is question is Baron Von Evilstein — and really, with a name like that, your life’s plan is pretty much already laid out for you.

  1. Must have been mixing some of those nitroglycerin pills…

  2. So…this part of this particular story was happening in Gotham-Blüdhaven?

  3. Also: cops have five-foot-long arms.

  4. Five foot long arms! Maybe that is where we get the term, the “long arm of the law”.

I would’ve of ticketed the driver. Something fishy going on. The rear view mirror is not attached. Moments later, it is on the windshield.

  5. Everything in a Kirby comic is dangerous.

  6. The cop just didn’t want to tell them there was a meth lab in the neighborhood. Bad for property values.

  7. That first panel makes it look like the car either has no roof, or has a five foot high windsheild.
