In my gut, the double-L LOOKS better. However, the correct spelling is with one "L" so that's what I usually go with. The other spelling I fall back on is "a-r-t-i-s-t." The inker is still the inker.

"Penciller" is the Oxford English Dictionary spelling, with "penciler" as a variation. I find it interesting that one of the definitions of "penciller", is for a reporter in the USA. So maybe single or double "l" is interchangable usage in the States. Or maybe DC just wants to be different.

Merriam-Webster says "penciller", but won't let me see the definition (to see if it lists "penciler" as a variant or not) unless I upgrade to a paid account.

Double "l" is usually the second variant, so I'd say the single "l" is preferred and more correct by American publishing rules. But then, DC says "super hero" instead of superhero because thats their trademark.
