Should that be Mr. Doom?

What exactly is Dr. Doom a doctor of?
As I recall, he got expelled from college, so when did he receive his bachelor’s degree, let alone an advanced degree? Of course, being ruler of your own country comes with perks, so he’s probably got more honorary degree from LIT (the Latverian Institute of Technology) and Lat State. But somehow Dr. (honorary) Doom doesn’t quite have the same ring to it…

Ah, now I can add my two cents.
It had never been explained before where the “Doctor” of Dr. Doom came from. But a couple of years ago, Ed Brubaker came here to Portugal for a comics festival. I met him and, knowing that he was going to write a new version of Doom’s origin (Books of Doom, check it out, it’s great!), I asked him what would be his explanation. He told me he hadn’t thought of it yet.
When the story was published, the explanation was that, seeing Reed Richards being called “doctor”, Doom ordered his underlings to call him also. Cool explanation!
I’m sure that Bru would do that anyway, but I have a wee bit of pride of being the first guy who asked him to explain Doom’s “doctorate”.
Best,
Hunter (Pedro Bouça)
