Let’s see how Allergy and his friends did in their predictions:
wrong!Moon crater tours. Nope, not there yet.
right!Video conferencing. Good call, though not quite as predicted.
wrong!Large bulky electronic machines. Passed it by and left it in the dust.

This PSA is found in DC comics from June 1956. The writer, as always, was Jack Schiff. Art by Win Mortimer.

  1. I disagree on the large, bulky machine X. It could be part of the Large Hadron Collider!

    Or not.

But, it’s strange that Richard Nixon would want to shake his hand for it.

  2. #arkonbey You stole my comment!

  3. I swear you’ve done this PSA before. I specifically remember Richard Nixon.

  4. No, this is the first time I’ve done this one, though Binky and Allergy are some of my favorites

  5. Ooh, they were SO CLOSE on predicting that Nixon would be president in 1976, if not for Watergate.

  6. Huh. Must’ve seen it on another site, I guess.

  7. “Large bulky electronic machines. Passed it by and left it in the dust.”

Not quite by 1976. See http://www.thegalleryofoldiron.com/370_115.JPG

  8. “Video conferencing. Good call, though not quite as predicted.”

They were Skyping fullscreen to me.

I think one thing they discovered is the hair gel and hair scissors… In this PSA, both Binky’s and Allergy’s hair look particularly up.

  9. Successfully predicted flat screen tvs

  10. Turns out it was covered over at What Were They Thinking?! ages ago, which is where I saw it.

  11. You forgot to add: women heading their own labs. (Not that there weren’t women scientist much longer ago, but given that this was the 50s, panel #4 seems like it’s bucking stereotypes.)
