Scott’s Comic Book Cover Advent Calendar – December 12th
December 12th, 2009
Today’s cover features Richie Rich, the “poor little rich boy.” What exactly is so poor about Richie? He has loving parents, good friends, and more money than Scrooge McDuck. What is “poor” about all that? Maybe he hides a soul crushing depression (though he’s always smiling), or possibly some horrible fatal disease (which would explain the abnormally large head and swollen ankles)?

Large head, swollen ankles, and complete absence of fashion sense. House would deduce a brain tumour. Or lupus.

It’s never lupus.
Also, I think The Simpsons had it right when they noticed Richie Rich and Casper looked almost exactly alike.

So Casper is the ghost of Richie’s elder twin who Richie had killed for his share of the inheritance? And Richie is ‘poor’ because behind his smile he is consumed with remorse? We could have something here…

Maybe he’s a poor lil boy because he’s just pulled an American Psycho and decorated his tree with severed heads?

Look at the title: Perhaps his sorrow stems from being a young child molested by multiple women. “I thought they were coming over to see my Christmas tree”? You know better Richie, and it’s time you tell someone what’s happening.
