Tuesday PSA: Buzzy says “Balance Your Fun Diet!”
Once again, Wolfie learns the hard way not to move in on Buzzy’s girl. Poor Wolfie. Sure, he’s a jerk, but he has some of the worst luck in comics.
Or does he? I think this scenario was really a plot by Buzzy and Susie:
“Why me?”
“He’s your friend!”
“He’s not my friend — he just started following me around in second grade and I can’t shake him. Wait, I’ve got an idea! I’ll pretend to be busy so I can’t go skating with you.”
“But then he’ll want to go in your place.”
“That’s OK — it’s part of the plan. Now, once you’re both in skates and when no one’s looking, give him a shove. Make sure he breaks something.”
“Won’t that look suspicious?”
“No, everyone knows how clumsy Wolfie is. If we pull this off right, we should be able to ditch him for at least six weeks.”
This PSA was found in Adventure Comics #154 as well as the other DC comics from July 1950. The ad was written by Jack Schiff, with art by Bob Oksner.

I flipped a copy of one of the nice Batman Dailies hardcover reprints when I was visiting a friend at college, and in the introduction it mentioned that Jack Schiff wrote them for quite a few years. I immediately thought of you when I read that.

So Buzzy thinks the book is “terrific”, but he can’t wait until he finishes it? I see many unsatisfying nights in Susie’s future.

In the representative panel you chose, the bush behind Wolfie is drawn in such a way that it looks as if he’s just appeared in a puff of green smoke. I thought for a minute that those PSAs had really gotten interesting.
