Dr Donald Blake, Handyman

scene from Journey Into Mystery #90

Heh, heh. Nice one, Foster. Use his “mallet” indeed.
Oh wait, you were being serious? Damn.

There are about a half a dozen different styles of reflex hammers. The most common in the United States are the Taylor (or Tomahawk) hammer and the Babinski hammer. Personally, I prefer the former, but it’s all a matter of what you’ve trained and feel comfortable with. Blake seems to be using neither of these, but instead a Dejerine reflex hammer (or it might be a Buck reflex hammer, or possibly a plain old ball peen hammer.

  1. Looks like you’ve got yesterday’s title text on the picture.

  2. Dr. Blake: “Does it hurt when I shatter your kneecap like…THIS?!?!” (CRACK)

Patient: (incoherent screaming and babbling about pain)

  3. “Does it hurt when I shatter your kneecap like…THIS?!?!”

That only happens when the good doctor uses his uru reflex hammer (patent pending).

  4. Bash, thanks for making me spray tea all over my desk. :)

  5. The picture isn’t detailed enough for you to see, but that’s actually a miniature copy of Mjolnir.

  6. But it only generates static electricity.

  7. He need only tap it once with mini-Mjolnir on a mortal’s knee to turn the degenerative joint into healthy, strong Asgardian sinew and bone.

If the patient doesn’t pay his bill tapping twice turns it back (see REPO MEN).

  8. He taps the knee, and he’s left having to explain why he’s suddenly holding a little twig.
