what really Killed Superman?
the Show ‘Lois and Clark’.
seriously DC was already planning Supermans wedding to Lois when this show came up and the producers came forward and said ‘we like that there getting married but they cant do it before We do it on the show, at the same time or later is fine but not before’
then the writers for the comics had to scrap a years worth of stories to delay the wedding and they decided ‘lets just kill him’

If the problem is swelling, won’t it be impossible for anyone (at least without super-strength) to force a tube into Superman’s trachea? And even with super-strength, it seems to me you’d need a much stronger than ordinary tube. Maybe not an invulnerable one, since it just has to push aside the obstruction, but still something better than what must be like a paper straw in relative terms. Kandorian EMT supplies?

Any chance you remember/have access to the old shortly pre-crisis storyline where Superman was split into two people, each with half of the powers? (Action 534-541) There was a fairly long ‘Superman undergoing surgery’ scene in that one that could make a nice Medical Review. [In fact, I'd have nominated whoever did it to the practicing doctors list if I could remember who it was...]
