Yeah, there's no way a bit of metal in the tattoos would've had that effect. I used to have epilepsy, and I had 2 MRIs when I had a head full of metal (braces, wires, chains, everything). They did have me take one later because they said the braces might've interfered with the reading, but I never felt any pulling or pain in my mouth before or after the MRI.

Thanks for these reviews; I like seeing which of the medicine on the show is actually accurate. I am not (yet) a healthcare professional (I'm a P1 in pharmacy school), so I don't usually know what's going on, but it does make me cringe when I see them constantly touching the patients and injecting drugs into them without wearing gloves. It's still a fun show. Seems like it would be annoying as hell for a doctor to watch, though!

If I recall correctly in this episode, House described the action of ethanol as binding to methanol and converting it to a harmless substance. That is incorrect, isn't it? I was under the impression that we treated methanol poisoning with fomepizole or just plain ethanol in order to inhibit alcohol dehydrogenase and prevent the metabolism of methanol - not to bind it or convert it to something else.

Best,
Tig

Diseraph - this is an American show. It was originally created and aired only in America. I'd say it is quite reasonable to assume that they used "Vicodin" instead of "hydrocodone", considering I'm in no way versed in medicines, have never had to take Vicodin, and yet am aware of it (and have never heard of hydrocodone).

Just wanted to share my two cents and give credence to the idea that, in the states at least, this naming convention makes perfect sense.

About the "using of the name Vicodin instead of hydrocodone because everyone knows what Vicodin is" line of reasoning is really unreasonable and probably only because its easier to say. As far as I'm aware, only Americans use that brand as I had to wiki it. I'm Australian, and we use various names depending on it's makeup (Endone, Oxycontin,Oxycodone, etc). I think Britain uses the same system (sorry too tired to research atm).

Finally, maybe Americans are pill-popping more S8's (controlled narcotics) than aussies do, but most people I've talked to don't know what Endone is unless they go through need it post-surgery or other pain management issues. I work as a health professional in both acute (e.g. hospital) and community and most people don't know these medications.

By the way, Cameron has serious issues that should be seen to by a psychologist or she's going to jump off a cliff or do a naughty transferrance and get kicked out of medicine. How many times has she over-exerted herself to the detriment of the patient already!? I can guarantee that the poor patient is not thinking of friendship when she hears the bad news - its back to doctor-patient relationship. I personally would be pissed if I found out that the doctor wasted what time I had left because they were too insecure.

Dyvid,

I thought it was a lab coat, but closer inspection suggests (to me, anyway) that it was just a coat of similar (but different) cut.
